USAID’s ECO LIFE Activity has made a community self-reliant.
Ghonarpara village within Fasiakhali Wildlife Sanctuary is home to many forest-dependent poor people, who are directly and indirectly reliant on forest resources and responsible for rapid forest degradation. However, the forest resources are insu
fficient for fulfilling their needs, thus forcing them to take loans from local Money Lenders.
In August 2020, Ghonarpara Village Conservation Forum (VCF) with 36 members was reformed by NACOM with the support from the Banglades
h Forest Department un
der the USAID’s ECO LIFE Activity by ensuring appropriate female Participation.
NACOM motivated the members to create
a savings group to enhance their economic activity. Each member of the VCF deposited an amount of BDT 200 per month and received an amount of BDT 100000 as Micro Capital Grant
from USAID’s ECO LIFE Activity for creating a revolving fund.
From the fund, 31 members out of 36 members have taken loans individually for accelerating their economic activities, and the loan amount is 310000 BDT. So far Bangladesh Taka 142200 out of 310000 taka has been repaid so far. The VCF Members are now getting financial support within their community in their moments of dire need.
