Transport is a critical sector to the achievement of the NDC objectives. The mitigation and adaptation targets that involve transport include the following:
- On mitigation, Bangladesh has set out an Unconditional target of 5% reduction in GHG emissions from BAU by 2030 in the transport, power, and industry sectors (12 MtCO2e)- which represents 9% reduction in transport emissions from Business as Usual (BAU); and a Conditional target of 15% reduction in GHG emissions from BAU by 2030 in the transport, power and industry sectors (36 MtCO2e)- equivalent to 24% reduction in transport emission from BAU. The NDC further lists several potential mitigation actions, which in the transport sector include improving vehicle/vessel efficiency by 15% through the use of cleaner technologies.
- On adaptation, Bangladesh’s NDC includes various objectives relevant to transport in fracture and systems, including comprehensive disaster management, coastal zone management, building climate-resilient infrastructure, conservation of wetlands and coastal zones, and capacity building on policy development.
