Dr. Khan served Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) from 1988 to 2020 at the field level as well as central administration holding various position of the Government of Bangladesh. He has more than 15 years’ experience at senior level administration, management, technical and advisory positions with the Government of Bangladesh and International Organizations for strategic planning and policy framing in climate change, pollution control, natural resources and environmental management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable energy development.
Dr. Khan has more than 35 years of administration, research, project management, consultancy and teaching experience in environment management, climate change, sustainable energy development, natural resources management, waste management, biodiversity conservation, agriculture and community-based natural resource management.
He has extensive experience of multi-disciplinary team management as well as planning, developing and implementing development projects and programs in the area of climate change, natural resources and environment management, biodiversity conservation, pollution control, waste management and sustainable energy development. He has extensive knowledge of addressing adverse impacts of climate change to reduce climate vulnerability in developing countries. He has provided leadership for establishing the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund resourcing through government budgetary allocation and the Bangladesh Climate Change Resilience Fund resourcing through multi-donor contributions.
He has experienced of implementing number of development projects/programs with national, regional and international organizations as the Project Director in the areas of climate change, biodiversity conservation, pollution control, natural and environment management. He has experienced of developing partnership with public, private, non-governmental and community-based organizations. Dr. Khan served as Co-Chair for IPCC Conflict Resolution Sub-Group, and Co-Chair for Loss and Damage stream of negotiation under the UNFCCC and member of the Working Group, Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), UNEP. Dr. Khan served as Spokesperson for the Least Developed Countries at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Dr. Khan has teaching experience at the University of Manitoba, Canada, BRAC University and North South University, Bangladesh. He published more than 35 journal articles/books/manuals on environment management, climate change, biodiversity conservation and natural resources management as author, co-author and editor.
