During the previous 6 hours, Cyclone ‘Sitrang’ has been traveling north-northeastwards at a pace of 15kmph. It is forecast to build further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours and continue moving; it is projected to strike the Bangladesh coast between Tinkona Island and Sandwip early tomorrow morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The influence of the heavy depression, new moon phase, and steep pressure gradient, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokhathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Cahttagram, and Cox’s Bazar, as well as their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by the wind-driven surge height of 03-05 feet above astronomical tide surge height. as per the special weather bulletin.
